Chaniece has been a part of the First Stop team for seven years, and in that time, she has watched our organization and community grow and change. She has served as Operations Manager, Case Manager, and Lead Case Manager—a tenure that has given her a unique look into Huntsville’s growing homeless community, and a better understanding of the struggles of homelessness.
In her current role as Lead Case Manager, Chaniece provides case management services to homeless individuals and oversees the Case Management team. She helps clients to access resources, develop a plan for self-sufficiency, and achieve their goals. According to Chaniece, one of the most important things she has learned from working with the homeless community is humility and patience.
When asked about a favorite memory from her time here, she shared:
“I was doing a home visit with a client who was being exited due to completing the two-year mark of being housed.
She looked at me and said, ‘Chaniece, I love you but I’m tired of seeing you. I’m ready to put my past behind me.’
That’s one of my fondest memories because she kept to the program, did what she was supposed to do as a self-sufficient transitioned client and was ready to just be in the society that she had regained and strategized for herself to maintain.”
She is passionate about her work and is committed to helping homeless individuals overcome the challenges they face and to rebuild their lives. Thank you, Chaniece, for being a part of the First Stop family—we are so lucky to have you!
