Even though the U.S. Census Bureau recognized Huntsville as the biggest city in Alabama in 2021, we want Huntsville to be known as having the biggest heart. At First Stop, we know that this type of reputation needs to be earned, but in so many ways the Huntsville community already embodies a spirit of generosity. Now, it’s time to fan the flame of generosity so that it spreads across our great city and makes a lasting impact, especially on those most vulnerable in our community!
Did you know…
In the last five years alone, Huntsville’s homeless population increased by 29.48%?
With the “largest city” title comes this reality: the homeless population continues to grow. And we believe the impact of homelessness can be felt throughout a city, causing a ripple effect in healthcare, public health, safety/security, the local economy, and more.
What happens when our heart outgrows the problem?
Imagine a city where the homeless of Huntsville, including recovering addicts, war vets, and those suffering from mental illnesses, receive the time, resources, relationships, and SPACE to grow, recover, connect, and thrive in independent, sustainable living situations.
We invite you to join us for our “Largest City. Biggest Heart.” annual dinner on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Jackson Center to help us with our mission to “encounter the homeless where they are, connect them to critical services and support, and empower them toward independent sustainable living.”
Let’s make that dream a reality!
