As the nation recovers from COVID-19, our homeless community needs us now more than ever. There are many ways you can give back.
Through agencies like First Stop, it’s easy to volunteer your time or resources to help the homeless return to independent, sustainable living.
Want to make an impact? Here are ways you can help our homeless friends get back on their feet and inspire others to do the same.
Become a volunteer: First Stop serves nearly 100 homeless individuals each day. From serving meals to providing enrichment classes to helping with our gardening program, First Stop relies on its volunteers to deliver critical services and support to the local homeless community. If you’re interested in being a volunteer, simply fill out our online form to get started. We look forward to connecting with you.
Donate much-needed items: We’re always in need of personal hygiene products, socks, bottled water, and other items for the homeless. Before you drop off donations, please call us at 256-533-5391 for ideas on how you can help. Here is the link to our most recent Urgent Needs list.
Make a financial gift: If you have the means, you can also make a financial donation to First Stop, which uses the funds to provide direct assistance to the homeless. Any amount – no matter how small – helps. Make a donation!
Provide a meal: First Stop relies on the public’s support to provide two hot meals each day at its Stokes Street facility. If you’d like to sign up for a meal donation, contact Operations Manager Joy Dodd at operations@firststop.org or call 256-533-3391.
Support our fundraiser: A New Day at First Stop is about supporting the growth of Huntsville with our expanded facilities, resources, and programs to help homeless clients secure permanent housing. To contribute to the fundraiser, click here.
